Medicinal Cannabis. Access Medicinal Cannabis.

Over the past few years there has been increased interest from Australians in the use of cannabis for medicinal purposes. As such, Commonwealth, state and territory governments have used existing laws, or passed specific laws, to allow the prescribing and dispensing of medicinal cannabis products.

From these changes, medicinal cannabis can only be prescribed by an Australian registered medical practitioner and can only be accessed through special state and federal pathways. The pathways are managed through the Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA) and known as the Special Access Scheme.

The TGA has provided guidance for doctors and patients regarding medicinal cannabis and its access.

The process by which patients can access medicinal cannabis is outlined below:
